| Clean-up Works for Bucim Mine Focused on Controlling Dust and Water Pollution |
Clean-up works for Bucim Mine are focused on controlling dust and water pollution. The implementation of the major civil works and equipment supply contracts is underway and the prospects are good for the envisaged installations to become operational.
One of the two small dams has already been erected and the second one is close to completion. Simultaneously kilometers of pipes are being installed and roofing works for the buildings of the two newly built pumping stations are underway.
Once the investment is completed, all of the polluted surface water discharges from Bucim mine will be eliminated, and the environmental conservation benefits for the region and downstream water bodies are expected to be rather substantial. Institutionally this investment introduces the concept of private-public partnership in the historic pollution mitigation context in the country, and therefore is likely to be used as a model approach for clean-up project implementation in the foreseeable future. |
