Presentation of the FA and MTD-Water Protection Measures, Bucim PDF

dsc05036.jpgOn February 12, 2009 in the premises of Bucim Mine, Mr. Botio Tabakov, BT Engineering General Manager, presented the Feasibility Assessment and Main Technical Design for Water Protection Measures - Bucim Mine. This presentation meeting was organized by UNDP Hot Spots Project and hosted by Bucim Management.

The objective of this meeting was presentation and explanation of the key findings of the design in general and the Variant 2.II as a technical solution for water protection measures/water management in particular. This variant includes extraction of copper from the waste water by the process refered to as "sorption" which makes it economically viable and self sustainable, and  has been identified as the most appropriate variant both from UNDP Hot Spots and Bucim Mine Management  .

However, it was noted that appart from being self-sustainable, this variant is the most expensive one and the shortage of funds of approx. 1.3 million euros has to be bridged. In this regard, Mr. Vladimir Stavric, UNDP Hot Spots National Coordinator added that despite of being expensive, the additional investment of 1.3 mill. euros would be justified in several years, as the variant provides opportunity for having  the  water management in line with the Macedonian legislation, and regarding the global market price of copper per ton, gaining  benefit from copper extraction to, at least, sustain the operation of the installation. Otherwise, the annual expenses for repumping the water into the system would be approximately 80.000 EUR.
