More than 15 journalists visited the Bucim mine to see the project's results.They had an opportunity to talk with the local population living in the area as well as to do a site tour of the mine. A series of interviews were conducted with the Bucim mine managers and the UNDP team, focusing on the latest interventions and project achievements.
Public Debate on Historic Pollution
A public debate was held in Radovis on 22 March 2010, on the topic of Historic Pollution. Opening statements were made by Macedonian Deputy Environment Minister Sonja Lepitkova, Radovis Mayor Robert Velkov, Bucim mine Deputy General Director Nikolajco Nikolov and UNDP Project Manager Aleksandar Nacev. The main objective of the debate was to raise awareness and initiate discussions amongst citizens on topics related to historic pollution, hotspots and environmental protection.
Training for Initiatives and Campaigns for Civil Society Organizations
More than 20 members from various civil society organizations from Lipkovo, Stip and Radovis attended a training on the topic "civic initiatives and campaigns in the area of environment".
Contracts Signed with NGO for Public Awareness Raising
A call for proposals for implementation of the public awareness raising campaign was announced on 10 September 2009. A total of four companies have applied and the NGO Macedonian Green Center has been selected and awarded a contract. Initial planning workshops were held between 4th and 6th of December 2009, with a total of seven stakeholder groups. This led to the preparation of action plans for all of the seven groups, and based on this a series of activities have been implemented in the period from December to April 2010.
In line with the second component of the Hot Spots Project, promotional event on Hot Spots Project activities and awareness raising , was organized in the Lojane primary school yard.
